Panglao & Bohol travel guide

Hidden Lagoon Resort is in Danao, on Panglao Island, Bohol. Panglao is linked to the main island by bridges, so you can enjoy the beaches and the sea and still reach Bohol's best-known sights in a day trip. This is what most guests ask us about.

Beaches and the sea around Panglao

Alona Beach, in the south of the island, is Panglao's best-known stretch of white sand, with restaurants, shops and dive centres along it. It is lively, so many travellers prefer to stay somewhere quieter and visit it for the day.

Balicasag Island, a short boat ride offshore, is popular for snorkelling and diving. Island-hopping trips are arranged locally by boat operators; ask the resort and we will tell you what to expect before you book anything.

Hinagdanan Cave

Hinagdanan Cave, in Dauis on Panglao Island, is a limestone cave with a lagoon inside where visitors can swim. It is an easy stop to combine with a beach afternoon.

The Bohol countryside in one day

Most of the island's famous sights are on the main island and fit in a full-day trip: the Chocolate Hills in Carmen (more than 1,200 grass-covered hills that turn brown in the dry season), the Philippine Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella, where you can see these tiny primates in a protected forest, and a cruise on the Loboc River, with lunch on board and live music.

Our own countryside tour covers this kind of route with a private driver, from about 8:00 to 17:00–18:00, on any day of your stay. You can add it when you book. It is a long day, so tell us if you have a flight or a ferry that day.

When to go

The dry season runs roughly from December to May, and March to May is usually the sunniest and best for the sea. June to September is the wettest period. Typhoons are most likely between October and January; Bohol is less exposed than other parts of the country, but check the forecast before you travel. October and November are a quieter in-between period.

Where to stay

Hidden Lagoon Resort has 17 rooms (Studio, Deluxe and Family) around a pool and sun terrace, with breakfast available and a bar. Bookings made on this website go straight to the resort.
